On 2–3 June 2025, the International Forum on Women, Peace, and Security in Prishtina, Kosovo, gathered global experts, policymakers, and activists to discuss women’s critical role in peacebuilding and the broader impact on conflict-affected societies.

PRIO Senior Researcher and Co-leader of the Gender Research Group, Júlia Palik, participated in the forum, contributing to the panel titled “Why Peace Needs Women? And, How Does That Impact the Lives of Children?” The panel examined the interconnectedness of women’s participation in peace processes and its long-term effects on communities, particularly on children and future generations.

Júlia was joined on the panel by Emilija Redzepi, Acting Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo; Remzie Istrefi, Judge at the Constitutional Court of Kosovo; Ambassador Gesa Bräutigam, Director for Human Rights and Global Health at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany; and anthropologist Emilie Nicolas. The discussion was moderated by Mirsad Jacevic, Vice Chair of Inclusive Security.

Her participation in the forum was partly supported by the CONTEST project (How Populist Illiberal Regimes Shape Gender Norms in Europe), reinforcing PRIO’s commitment to advancing research on gender, peace, and security, and contributing to critical conversations on the challenges and opportunities for women in conflict-affected societies.
