The roundtable was divided into two sessions. The first roundtable, entitled advancing gender equality through international development policies, focused on what a feminist foreign policy implies in practical terms for international development cooperation. Participants in the first roundtable included representatives from the Embassies of Spain, Republic of South Africa, Ireland and the UK, as well as a representative from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign affairs.

The second roundtable, entitled promoting women’s rights and gender equality in foreign policies and international cooperation, focused on the experiences with promoting a feminist foreign policy. It also discussed how states can advance women’s rights and gender equality without subscribing to a feminist foreign policy. Participants included representatives from the embassies of Canada, France, Tunisia, Chile, Germany and Mexico.

Both roundtables discussed the positive effects of advancing women rights and how subscribing to a feminist foreign policy in several cases have resulted in increased participation of women internally and inclusion and protection of women in policies made.

The event was organized by Fokus in collaboration with the Tunisian Embassy in Oslo.
