On 16 September, Miriam Coronel Ferrer met the Norwegian chapter of the Nordic Women Mediator's Network to discuss current challenges and opportunities that women mediators face.
Miriam Coronel Ferrer is a professor of political science at the University of the Philippines and a peace negotiator. She chaired the government panel that negotiated and signed the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front on 27 March 2014. She is the first female chief negotiator in the world to sign a final peace accord with a rebel group. From January 2018-January 2021, she was a member of the United Nations’ Standby Team of Senior Mediators during which she provided mediation support to UN missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Maldives, Kosovo, Georgia, Southeast Asia, among others. She also supported various undertakings to advance women and youth inclusion in mediation and peace processes.
